Metz Big Band, in memory of Pauline Clayton

When a loved one passes away, life is difficult and your world changes. Last year Pauline Clayton lost her battle with cancer and sadly passed away. Pauline was a strong member of the community and touched many lives. On Saturday 24th April, her husband John, her friends and The Metz Big Band came together to put on a performance in memory of Pauline, to celebrate her life and her enjoyable years as part of the band.

Hosted at The Kings School Gloucester, the band’s performance was as exciting as ever – “the acoustics filled the room with such a brilliant energy” commented one enthusiast.

Throughout the night guests enjoyed a fundraising bar, a complimentary buffet and a sensational raffle. Many prizes were donated to The Metz Big Band, from shopping vouchers to a wonderful weekend away, all contributing to the night’s grand total fundraising of £3,621!

John Clayton, husband to Pauline and member of The Metz Big Band was very thankful for the support of all those involved. John shares “We hope everybody enjoyed the evening, from what I have heard, everyone had a fantastic time – including the band. I would like to say a great big thank you to all those that contributed to the evening’s success. We are so happy with the amount raised, and the money will be split evenly between the two charities close to our hearts, Focus Oncology Fund at Cheltenham General Hospital and Sue Ryder Hospice, Leckhampton Court. A special thanks also goes to The King's School Gloucester for all their help and expertise with the logistics and generosity in providing the superb venue.  Without them, the evening could never have happened.”

Fiona Hawkins, Fundraising Coordinator of the Hospitals Charity said, “It’s really wonderful to see a community event like this, to celebrate the life of a loved one passed. Many thanks to all involved to make the night’s entertainment one to remember. Pauline was a patient of Cheltenham General Hospital for a number of years and received care provided through FOCUS. The FOCUS Fund will really benefit from this donation and it will go a long way in making a real difference to the support we are able to offer patients fighting cancer in the Gloucestershire Oncology Centre, funding equipment and technologies which would otherwise not be possible. From portable devices which provide continuous pain relief to special reclining chairs for patients receiving chemotherapy, donations we receive for FOCUS makes an incredible impact on patient’s lives.
