Sherdons Golf Centre raise £2000 for local cancer care
When Les Webb at Sherdons Golf Centre took on a year as Captain, he decided to make a difference for local cancer patients by fundraising for the Focus fund, which provides extra care and equipment in the Gloucestershire Oncology Centre.
The fundraising at Sherdons, which is based at Tredington near Tewkesbury, took place throughout 2016 with money raised through the Seniors Open, Ladies Open, various club competitions including a quiz night, and donations from members which totalled an outstanding £2,000 to help local cancer care.
Richard Smith, Head of Fundraising for Focus: “We are very grateful for the support which Les and everyone at Sherdons has given to our Focus fund, which will directly benefit local patients fighting cancer. Their commitment to raise funds has been incredible, and will make a real difference for patients in their local Cancer Centre.
Donations to Focus provide specialist equipment and improvements to facilities over and above the NHS, helping to provide equipment such as rise and recline chairs for chemotherapy patients, or fold out beds which enable family members of patients to stay overnight next to their loved ones when they are receiving treatment.“
Focus gives support to patients receiving treatment for a wide range of conditions including breast cancer, thyroid cancer, gynecological cancer, prostate cancer, bowel cancer throat and lung cancer. The Gloucestershire Oncology Centre is located on the Cheltenham General Hospital site and provides comprehensive cancer services for a catchment population of just over 1 million people living in Gloucestershire and surrounding counties.
