Walk for Wards 2015

The first ever Walk for Wards event hosted by the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity was completed on October 11th, and what a success it was.

Doctors, nurses, health care assistants, midwives, patients, families and friends embarked together on the 3 km or 10 km walk around Cirencester Park. The joint aim of raising funds for a specific ward or department, or the hospitals generally, created instant comradery between participants and an enjoyable stroll was had by all.

Initial figures suggest almost £8,000 will be raised, an impressive sum for the walk’s first ever event, which it is hoped will become an annual fundraiser for the charity.

Lucy Mathieson, Corporate Training Specialist at the Hospitals was walking with her husband Alan, raising money for the charity after Alan received treatment at Gloucestershire Royal. She says “Walk for Wards is a great way to bring together our staff and local people to support our hospitals" and in terms of her husband’s treatment “we couldn’t have bought better care and we are walking to say thank you”.

The reasons for people taking part were all different, and personal. From those currently undergoing treatment, to those who have suffered
tragedy, and the staff that walked tirelessly to ensure their department has the state of the art equipment patients deserve.

Fantastic donations were received  by our partners at Sainsbury’s Teweksbury Road, Water in a Box, Bottle Green and Ribena so all walkers could have drinks and snacks at the end of their endeavour, and Colour Connection sent our fantastic marshals on the day. A massive thank you to them all.
