Paediatric Day Unit (PDU) opens
The new Paediatric Day Unit at the Children’s Centre at GRH opened its door on 17th February 2014.
The purpose-built unit will provide care for children who need a test or procedure that doesn't involve an overnight stay in hospital, but which cannot be carried out during an outpatient appointment.
Dr Miles Wagstaff, consultant paediatrician, said: “This fantastic new unit will deliver consistent quality of care for all children and their families wherever they live in the county in new, purpose built facilities.
“Lots of planning has gone into it. We had a public consultation about the move last year to centralise all the day care surgery and medical investigations onto the one site.
“Before, some of this work had been done in Cheltenham, and some in Gloucester. This is a way of bringing it together all under the one site in a specialised unit.
“Rather than sharing facilities with adults, they will be cared for in a children-only environment so it will be a better experience for our young patients.
The unit was funded by our Trust, with furnishings and equipment coming courtesy of The Pied Piper appeal. General Manager for Paediatrics Paula Tambling said: "We are grateful once more to the Pied Piper Appeal for the support they have given us for the new unit. Thanks to them, the environment looks fantastic."
