Trust gives Twitter followers a glimpse of life in the Emergency Department

The Trust is giving its Twitter followers an exclusive look behind the scenes at life in the Emergency Departments at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals.

The Trust will be taking part in a national NHS Choose Well Tweetathon on Wednesday, December 12.

Twitter users can follow @gloshospitals and #tweetwell to find out what kinds of conditions and injuries have been treated at each of our Emergency Departments (EDs), as well as gain useful advice to help patients access the right treatment for them.

Live tweeting will take place between 8am and 5.30pm.

Chief Executive, Dr Frank Harsent, said: “This is the first time we have used our Twitter account to promote one of our services in this way. We know that more and more people are accessing health information and news via social media. I also know that we, as a busy hospitals trust, have a lot of interesting information to share.

“Our hospitals are busy all year round but winter is a particularly challenging time for our staff. As well as giving our followers a glimpse of real life in ED, we hope the tweetathon will encourage people in Gloucestershire to choose the right health service for their needs.”

The national NHS tweetathon is part of a campaign to encourage more people in England to choose well when accessing local health services. Other participants in the South West include South West Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, Plymouth Hospitals Trust, Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and Weston Area Health NHS Trust.
