Careers Fair & AGM offer chance to see life in our hospitals

Young people interested in a career in the NHS are invited to an interactive Careers Fair, at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Aimed specifically at those starting Year 12 this year, the ‘Extraordinary, Everyday’ Careers Fair provides an opportunity to see what life is like in our hospitals, with a range of hands-on workshops from emergency care to healthcare science. Later the same day, the Trust opens its doors to the public for its Annual General Meeting (AGM), where attendees can also take part in the workshops.

Deborah Lee, Chief Executive, said: “As a mum to a 15-year-old, I realise how difficult it can be to decide which career path to follow, especially in a field as broad as healthcare. That’s why we’re opening our doors to give young people the chance to come and speak to our staff and take part in our hands-on workshops.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the NHS, whether in a clinical or non-clinical role. Working for the NHS is extremely rewarding and fulfilling and whichever team you join, you become part of a talented, passionate team of people, delivering extraordinary care every day.”

Visitors at the Careers Fair will be given the chance to attend five workshops:

  • On the Front Line: a snapshot of life in A&E to theatre
  • Making Faces: dental technology and reconstructive science
  • Healthcare Science: detection and diagnosis everyday
  • Tiny Lives: the miracle of life
  • Everyday Matters: occupation and activity.

Visitors to the AGM will also be able to take part in the workshops, before hearing from the Chief Executive and Chair of the Trust, their reflections on performance during 2015/16 and the challenges ahead.

Both events will be held on Saturday, October 1, in the Atrium at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital: The Extraordinary, Everyday Careers Fair starts at 9am and finishes at 1.20pm. The AGM interactive workshop session will run from 2.30pm – 3.15pm and AGM will finish at 4.30pm.
