Gloucester Birth Unit reaches 5 year milestone

A celebration and afternoon tea to celebrate five years since the opening of the Midwifery led Birth Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital will be held on Sunday 17th January 2016.

Midwife Nikki Dobson who has organised the event said: “We’re inviting all the ladies who gave birth during January 2011 to come and join us for tea. We’re all looking forward to seeing the families and children who came into the world five years ago! If we haven't contacted you directly but you gave birth at the Unit in January or February 2011, please come along - everyone's welcome!

“Since then, midwives have cared for over 6000 women and 4633 babies have been born in our midwifery led unit, which averages about a 1000 births a year. It really has been a wonderful success story.”

The Midwifery led Birth Unit is located in the Women’s Centre at GRH together with the delivery suite and maternity ward. Our maternity teams provide care for more than 6,000 births every year at our units across the county at Gloucester, Cheltenham and Stroud, as well as providing community midwifery teams for home births.
