Patients Praise Cotswold Fertility Unit

Patients receiving fertility treatment at the Cotswold Fertility Unit have rated the staff as either good or excellent, according to the results of a recent survey.

One hundred percent of the patients who responded to the 2013 patient satisfaction survey said medical, nursing and admin staff were good or excellent, and 97% said the manner and attitude of nursing staff was excellent or very good.

The fertility unit, which opened in 2009, is a satellite service for the larger units in Oxford and Bristol, and provides women who would like to conceive with a local specialist service.

Run by experienced Consultant Gynaecologist, Kalpana Reddy, in the four years it has been open the unit has already treated 1,200 women and has an average success rate of 45% for IVF and ICSI (Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection).

Mrs Reddy said: “The quality of care we provide to the women we help to conceive is extremely important to us and this survey is a way to capture their views and help us improve in the future.

“Most of the scores we have been given this year have increased since we last conducted a survey in 2011. We are particularly pleased that 97% of respondents felt they had been treated with respect and dignity during their appointment at our clinic. This is important as we know that some of our patients feel nervous about seeking help to conceive.”

This year’s survey scores increased in all areas with the exception of two:

  • 93.3% of patients rated the availability/timing of the appointments of good or excellent, compared with 97% in 2011
  • 77% of patients felt that the follow-up arrangements were good or excellent, compared with 91% in 2011.

An action plan has been developed to help resolve these issues.
