Supporting No Smoking Day on 13th March
Thousands of smokers in Gloucestershire are being encouraged to ‘swap fags for swag’ on the 13th March for the 30th anniversary of No Smoking Day.
Events at our Trust involve displays and information at both smoking cessation ‘pods’ – in the atrium at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and West Block Outpatients at Cheltenham General Hospital. The day is aimed at raising awareness of the support available for those who want to quit, and staff will be able to get free lung age tests as well as carbon monoxide testing.
The theme for the day this year is ‘Swap Fags for Swag’. One of the biggest incentives for smokers to quit comes from considering the amount of money they spend on cigarettes and thinking about what they could afford if they were to give up for good.
By tallying up the exact amount of money that could be saved, smokers can work towards an actual goal – be it a new pair of shoes, a family trip to the cinema or a dream holiday.
The annual health campaign, run by the British Heart Foundation helped more than 760,000 people quit smoking last year and inspired another 1.5 million to seek out information to help them quit in future.
