Workout at Work day 2015
Today is the Chartered Society of Physiotherapist's fifth annual workout at work day. On the day, physio staff go into work places across the UK to promote the importance of being physically active during the working day and keeping 'fit for work'. We have events taking place at both hospitals to mark the day.
At Gloucestershire Royal (Fosters Restaurant) in the morning, physios are joining up with colleagues from our occupational health team, Working Well, our Dietitians and dermatology department as well as representatives from Think Travel. There is also smoking cessation advice from Stop Smoking Gloucestershire. There are also gentle exercise sessions being run on the helipad outside GRH.
At Cheltenham General in the afternoon, the stands move over to West Block Outpatients where the health & wellebing advice and information continues. Staff also have the opportunity to try out Pilates at a number of 'taster' sessions being held in the physio gym.
In the evening, the annual Kat Lyle Memorial Rounders match takes place in Naunton Park, Cheltenham where teams will vie to take the trophy from the Gloucester Physios who claimed the trophy last year.
The CSP is making the call as about 900 physiotherapy staff go into workplaces across the UK to hold Workout at Work Day events.
The initiative helps employers see the business case for keeping their staff healthy and encourages them to introduce the often low-cost measures that enable workers to be active every day.
It also highlights to employees the simple ways they can get exercise even during the busy working day.
