Gloucestershire's maternity services gain top safety rating

Maternity services at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have joined only a handful of Trusts in the country who have achieved the top Level 3 Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trust’s (CNST) status in recognition of the high standard of its services.

In January, the Maternity Service underwent a level 3 assessment which  involved a rigorous two-day assessment looking at all aspects of maternity services across five standards: organisation, clinical care, high risk care, communication, postnatal and new born care.

Divisional Director for Women and Children’s Division, Paul Byrne explains: “This is the highest level to achieve nationally and is a reflection of the high quality services provided in Gloucestershire.

“This is excellent news for the Trust and families in Gloucestershire."

Divisional Nursing and Midwifery Director Vivien Mortimore put the achievement down to the commitment and dedication of all the staff involved: “In achieving Level 3 the services has been able to successfully demonstrate that clear processes are in place to ensure the provision of high quality care for the mothers and babies who use our services across the entire maternity service, in all care settings.

“This is a fantastic achievement for the services and a testament to the hard work of the whole team and it demonstrates what can be achieved with focus and the commitment of our staff.”
