  • A glycopeptide antibiotic.
  • Doses based on actual body weight and indication.
  • Loading doses are given every 12 hours for 4 - 5 doses depending on indication.
  • Maintenance doses are given ONCE DAILY starting 24 hours after the last loading dose.
  • Take a pre-dose level on the 5th day and weekly thereafter.

Main indications:

  • Community Acquired Pneumonia if suspected/confirmed MRSA
  • Cellulitis if suspected/confirmed MRSA
  • Chronic diabetic ulcers if suspected/confirmed MRSA
  • Infection of unknown site if past history of MRSA

Active against most strains of:

  • Staphylococcus aureus – including MRSA
  • Staphylococcus epidermidis
  • Streptococcus spp
  • Enterococcus faecalis

Not active against most strains of:

  • Haemophilus influenzae
  • Escherichia coli
  • Coliforms
  • Pseudomonas
