Restricted Antibiotics

Clinicians wishing to prescribe restricted antibiotics are required to contact the Microbiologist for approval which must then be recorded in the medical notes. The exception to this is where the restricted antibiotic is specified in a protocol or if the patient is nil by mouth (or not absorbing) and on an antibiotic that has to be used in its restricted IV form rather than its unrestricted oral formulation.
