Primary medical qualifications
Dr Shaw (MBChC, MSc, FRCP) graduated from Bristol University in 1994 and subsequently completed specialty training in the South West and at St Mark's Hospital, in London. He has a Master's degree in Medical Education from the University of Cardiff and has been a consultant in Gloucestershire since 2003.
Areas of expertise
Dr Shaw is currently the Trust Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology and has a particular interest in the diagnosis and treatment of luminal gastroenterology (conditions that affect the gut). He also holds the post of National Clinical Lead for Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the Royal College of Physicians.
His particular areas of expertise include:
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's and Colitis)
- Bowel cancer
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Coeliac disease
- Dyspepsia (indigestion)
Procedures performed include:
- Upper GI endoscopy
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy
All patients requiring an overnight stay in hospital under the care of Dr Shaw will be admitted to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
