Staff Support

Staff Support Services are confidential and available to all GHT staff.  The service aims to support people in any difficult situation either at work or at home.

  

Why have this service?

Most people at some stage have difficulties that they have trouble dealing with on their own.

For example:

  • Difficult relationships at work or feeling unsupported.
  • Feeling “stressed” at work or home or supporting others under stress.
  • Dealing with disciplinary or grievance procedures.
  • Loss of confidence.
  • Coping with high workloads.
  • Adjusting to change either at work or home.
  • Dealing with challenging patients or incidents at work.

Psychological Therapists are trained to help with these and other issues.

The service gives people the opportunity to:

  • Talk openly about any worries or concerns.
  • Gain perspective and better understanding of any difficulties.
  • Develop strategies and skills for dealing with problems.

The majority of staff support work is about supporting individual staff members, however we also offer: support for managers and support for groups and teams.

How can I refer myself to Staff Support?

Staff support offers a confidential self referral counselling service, based within the Health Psychology Department.  The service is available to all Gloucestershire Hospitals Foundation Trust staff. If you are employed by a different Trust, or are here as a student or volunteer, we may be able to advise you of other sources of support. You can refer yourself by completing the online referral form.

People come to Staff Support with all sorts of difficulties and issues, which may impact on them emotionally, or on their performance at work.  However, it is important to note that we are unable to offer emergency support.  If you feel you are currently experiencing a crisis please also contact your GP, or other services such as the Samaritans to seek urgent support.
