Meet the Team

Vickie Mathias
Clinical Nurse Manager - Lymphoedema

Vickie trained as a Registered Nurse at the Middlesex and University College Hospital, London in 1989.  Initially she specialised within HIV?AIDS care before becoming a palliative care nurse in a hospice setting.  Vickie has worked within lymphoedema since 2002 where she was appointed to a sister's post at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London.  For ten years she was the clinical lead for St Luke's Hospice Lymphoedema Service in Plymouth.  Vickie joined the Gloucestershire Lymphoedema Service in October 2015 after recently moving back to her home county.  She is qualified to perform Le Duc Manual Lympathic Drainage Massage and has updated with Floroscopy Guided MLD.

 

Ali O'Connor
Macmillan Lymphoedema Specialist Practitioner

 Ali started working in lymphoedema in 2004 in Worcestershire and joined the Gloucestershire Service in 2007.  She is now the Clinical Lead of the service.  She has BSc (Hons) in Applied Professional Studies from the University of Worcester,  She has also completed her Post Grad Diploma in Advanced Practice at University of Bradford with a special interest in Lymphoedema.   She is qualified as an Independent Prescriber and qualified to perform manual lymphatic drainage in both Leduc and Casley-Smith. 

 

Kim Wilcox
Macmillan Lymphoedema Specialist Practitioner

Kim trained at Cheltenham School of Nursing and qualified as an Enrolled Nurse in 1985.  She has worked for many years in Palliative Care completing her conversion course to Registered Nurse in 1998 through Macmillan Open Learning.

Kim worked as Liaison Sister for the Sue Ryder Home prior to a short spell in the community in Cheltenham in 2001.  She returned to Leckhampton Court Hospice to the inpatient unit, and for the last four years in the Day Hospice.  Kim qualified as a reflexologist with the International Institute of Reflexology in 2007.  Kim has now completed an accredited Lymphoedema Module.

 

Shelley Ellis
Lymphoedema Practitioner

Shelley qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2000 and has been working in Gloucestershire since 2004.  SheI has worked in a variety of clinical settings and have spent 6 years working in palliative care and oncology at Sue Ryder Care, Oncology Wards in Cheltenham General Hospital, Great Oaks Hospice and in the community.

 

 Jane Spiers
Macmillan Lymphoedema Assistant Practitioner

Jane's first nursing role was at the Sue Ryder Care Home where she worked on the wards as a Nurse Auxiliary caring for patients and their families in a palliative care setting.  After 10 years at Sue Ryder she moved on to Gloucestershire Hospitals working at Wheatstone Day Hospice as a Health Care Assisant with a team caring for people with life threatening illnesses.

During her time at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust she has achieved an NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care.  She is one of the first Healthcare Assistants to work in lymphoedema and now has a permanent post with the team.
