  • This is a test for infection in travellers to tropical regions
  • A travel history and date of onset of illness is mandatory when requesting this investigation
  • Dengue nucleic acid detection assays (e.g. PCR) can be performed on serum or EDTA blood samples. Please discuss with the laboratory.

Serum - paired samples normally required

8.5ml of blood taken into a plain gel tube 

8.5mL BD Vacutainer tube

  • Date of onset
  • Travel history (itinerary and dates) 
  • Yellow fever vaccination history

Store at fridge temperature

Transport as soon as possible at ambient temperature
