  • This test is the best way to diagnose acute Legionella infection
  • It should be performed as early as possible after diagnosis of pneumonia
  • Legionella serum antibodies are rarely of diagnostic value, but may be useful in epidemiological investigations

Urine

A minimum of 1ml of urine in a

30ml sterile universal container

Bottles with boric acid preservative are acceptable

  • Relevant clinical details
  • Please state whether community or hospital acquired pneumonia
  • Date of onset
  • Relationship to other clinical cases
  • Occupation and exposure history

Storage/transport

Store at fridge temperature

Transport as soon as possible at ambient temperature
