Pneumococcal urinary antigen test

  • This test is used for the detection of Streptococcus pneumoniae antigens in urine.
  • It can be used for diagnosis in community acquired pneumonia
  • The test is not available to inpatients after 7 days admission
  • The accuracy of this test has not been proven in young children

Sample requirements

Urine

A minimum of 1ml of urine in a

30ml sterile universal container

Bottles with boric acid preservative are acceptable

30 mL sterile Universal

Storage/transport

Store at fridge temperature

Transport as soon as possible at ambient temperature
