Schistosoma haematobium egg

  • Serum antibodies are not usually detectable until 6 - 12 weeks after infection
  • Annual tests leading to loss of antibody may be useful to indicate successful treatment
  • A travel history is essential when requesting this investigation
  • Examination of faeces and/or urine for ova may be of value - please contact the laboratory for further advice
