Conference information

In October 2007 we held the inaugural Medical Education Conference at Hatherley Manor Hotel, Gloucestershire. The Postgraduate Medical Education Department wanted an opportunity to thank those involved in teaching medical trainees for their commitment and enthusiasm. 2007 was a difficult time with MTAS so the timing of introducing the Education Conference was perfect giving everyone the opportunity to discuss current national and regional issues.

The overall theme of the conference is “Learning and Sharing”. The morning sessions cover current national, regional and local updates and enables time for debate with senior representatives from the Trust and the Severn Deanery. The afternoon sessions are set aside for “Sharing Good Practice” this forum enables individuals or departments to share areas of good practice and to support the development of our vibrant local educational faculty.

We aim to continue to run this annual event because we feel it is important to have an opportunity to debate national issues; to hear of educational updates from the Trust and to ensure that both trainers and trainees have the opportunity to discuss and question the increasing requirements of training programmes.

Each year a Trainer of the Year Award is made to a supervisor who has demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm. Trainees are able to nominate supervisors and a panel of judges select the recipient. The prize is awarded at the conference.
