Crane at Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) Saturday 15 and Saturday 22 March

13 Mar 2025, 5:09 p.m.

As part of enabling works for a new state-of the art MRI scanner at CGH, a crane will affect the College Road wing carpark and stairwell on Saturday 15 March and Saturday 22 March

To support this work, some parking spaces in the College Road car park will be blocked, and others may be affected during the arrival and set-up of the crane.

The crane will be on site from early morning on each date

Areas affected by Crane lift

The crane will be operational for 2-3 hours on each date. For the majority of this time there will be no impact on access/ routes around College Road Block, however:

  • There will be periods of approximately 20 minutes each when the crane is lifting over the building (see map below). For safety reasons, access will not be permitted under the path of the crane.
  • During these periods, the use of the stairwell and lift shaft will be prohibited. These areas will not be physically blocked off, but crane support staff will be present externally and, on each level, to stop people from accessing the affected areas.
  • The main hospital corridor will be accessible throughout, offering other alternative routes.
  • No other entrances/areas will be affected - St Luke's, ED and St Pauls entrances, lifts (where applicable) and stairwells will remain open as normal.
  • Pedestrian access around the hospital using alternative routes will remain possible
