Library team
Library and knowledge
The library environments are peaceful, calming and considered, with colleagues commenting that the team are always kind and welcoming, willing to go the extra mile if you need support. The team make extra efforts to advertise books of the week and put out clear and helpful instructions for equipment, as well as creating quiet spaces, working pods and team areas, all of which are used by hundreds of staff each week.
One nomination commented, “It is wonderful to know that there is always a hub to retreat to if you need to work.” This team put so much thought and consideration into creating a space that supports the learning, wellbeing and development of all staff from all divisions. They really go the extra mile (and even bring in PAT dogs to pet!).
Grounds team
GMS
This small team make a big difference to the external spaces at both hospitals, arriving onsite early in the morning to empty bins and sweep up before beginning the gardening - mowing, weeding, cutting back trees and shrubs, or mending fences and even fixing small potholes. Recently, they have taken on several extra projects including creating wildflower borders, planting 75 trees to mark the NHS 75th birthday and planting up the borders by the new Chedworth Suite entrance. This year, they also volunteered for training on how to rescue peregrine chicks – just in case they fell from the Tower Block nest!
Team lead Laura Phillips has used her skills as a garden designer to improve planting and biodiversity across the site, with better green spaces for staff, patients and visitors to enjoy, and more habitats for wildlife. The Grounds team also work with regular volunteers and corporate teams and are shortlisted for their desire to do a good job and willingness to keep improving the site.
Practice education facilitators, Workforce and Education team
The team works hard behind the scenes to bridge the gap between universities and placement areas for pre-registration student nurses, student nursing associates and registered nurse degree apprentices. They also deliver face-to-face training and micro-teaching to train staff so that students feel supported in their placement assessments.
The team provide pastoral support for students, working in partnership with ward areas and universities to help them develop into confident and competent autonomous practitioners. They also do clinical support shifts where they work alongside students to help them achieve their individual learning outcomes. This proactive team also facilitate a monthly student council, which gives students a voice and offers a safe place to raise and escalate concerns.
