Our outdoor Wildflower Trail aims to provide a calming environment where patients, visitors, NHS staff and our local community can relax, recuperate and recharge while being surrounded by nature.

The native, perennial wildflowers you will find along our Wildflower and Nature Trail support pollinators and other insects, which, in turn, can support the return of other wildlife to the area.

Take the time to reflect and contemplate in these natural, peaceful surroundings that provide a break from our indoor ward environments.

Our aims

We are enhancing our hospital sites to maximise their potential for health, wellbeing and biodiversity, fostering a deeper connection with nature.

The diverse green spaces within and around our properties have the potential to numerous benefits to both people and wildlife.

Providing accessible green spaces can have extensive and far-reaching benefits. Increasing evidence highlights the positive impact of nature and green spaces on mental and physical health.

We believe that healthcare sites like hospitals can serve their communities by offering spaces for social interaction, learning, recreation, and exercise.

The cycle of nature

Some of our Wildflower areas are dormant during the winter months, but visitors can still enjoy walking in nature. We also harvest seeds from our wildflowers each year for two reasons, first to allow the trail to be re-planted each year and second, to share seeds with colleagues at Gloucestershire Hospitals to grow in their own green spaces.
