Engaging Exhibitions: Work from renowned artist Ralph Steadman are now on display at Cheltenham General
Thanks to your support, new artwork has been installed to help transform the environment for day surgery patients.Celebrated artist Ralph Steadman kindly gave permission to display work from his ‘Extinct Boids’ collection to be used in patient cabins and consultation rooms. The works are described on his website as ‘a riot of expression and colour, with a slice of trademark Steadman humour.'
The artwork displayed has a theme of birds, migration and murmuration to signify the journey patients go on during their visit to the Day Unit, as well as the efficiencies they receive from the Surgery Team.
“The new artwork has helped to transform the spaces at the unit. The artwork is modern, bright and colourful - and it’s a really great conversation starter between the patient and staff member! It can really help to put them at ease and offer a welcome distraction. Everyone in the team loves the artwork and we are very grateful for to have these incredible artworks on display.”
Laura Cummings, Senior Sister
Anoushka Duroe-Richards, Trust Arts Co-ordinator, said “Ralph’s work was chosen for its modern and light-hearted qualities. It was fantastic to work with the staff and patients to choose their favourites from over 300 images. We are very grateful to Ralph who kindly gave us permission for the use of his collection and also the charity supporters who have helped transform this clinical setting.”
Thank you to everyone who donated to help improve the patient experience and enhance the hospital environment.
