How charity-funded mobile sensory equipment is helping to make a difference at our hospitals
Thanks to your support, we have been able to fund two new portable sensory trollies; the Rhino Sensory Voyager, for patients on our wards. This specialist equipment offers a full sensory experience; helping patients to engage their touch, sight, hearing, movement and balance. The unit is extremely portable and can easily be moved across different departments to support a range of patients with sensory processing conditions. Thanks to donations we have been able to fund a sensory trolley for both Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
Karen Pitcher and her son George have seen first-hand the difference this can make for patients.
“The transition from Children’s Services to Adult Services is a huge change. My son George has complex needs, he enjoys listening to music and lights play a huge part in his life. These things are readily available in the Children’s Services but there was nothing in Adult Services.”
“The charity-funded sensory trolley makes such a huge difference; it gives a full sensory experience, incorporating music and lights all in one easily transportable unit. It is also not just for young adults with disabilities/complex needs, but can be used as a calming unit for adults with mental health difficulties or the elderly with dementia.”
“George was an inpatient last week and not having to bring his own lights and music was really helpful. He was able to have access to the sensory equipment which he thoroughly enjoyed and was mesmerised by.”
“The staff were all totally amazed too and enjoyed seeing it in action, it made them feel relaxed when they came in the room so altogether a massive hit. We are very grateful to the Charity for funding these units that will have huge benefits to the health and recovery of patients.”
Thank you to everyone who helps us fund the latest equipment to improve the patient experience over and above that the NHS can provide.
