Nurturing healing and wellness: Plans for a new Sanctuary Garden confirmed
This new green space at Wooton Lawn will be a safe place for patients to relax and recover. This calming, tranquil area will help people connect with nature, encourage biodiversity and improve health and wellbeing. It will also be somewhere staff can offer therapeutic support and social activities such as gardening or yoga. The space has been designed thanks to ideas and feedback from patients; it will feature a variety of trees, shrubs and plants, seating areas and a ‘path of hope’.
Our project to create a Sanctuary Garden for women at Wotton Lawn Hospital will benefit hundreds of patients, as well as their families, every year - enabling them to spend time somewhere tranquil away from the ward. It will help their recovery and give them an opportunity to relax with their visitors, many of whom are children, and we are absolutely delighted that the charity has pledged to support us with making this a reality.
Angela Willan, Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust
This new garden will follow a number of green spaces funded by the Charity. “Over the years we have transformed many outdoor areas at our hospitals, helping to create places where both patients and staff can take a break from the hospital ward environment. Our Commemorative Garden is a well-loved area that holds special meaning for many, and later this year our baby loss remembrance garden and nature trails are due to completed. We are incredibly grateful to our supporters for helping to fund these spaces that make a real difference.” Richard Smith, Associate Director
