Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has risen alarmingly over the last 40 years and inappropriate use of antimicrobials is a key driver. Promoting and monitoring the judicious use of antimicrobials to preserve their future effectiveness is critical.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • GHNHSFT Antibiotic guidelines are being moved from the MicroGuide platform to a new platform called EOLAS from the morning of 17th December 2024.
  • The guidelines will be accessible via the intranet by accessing the "desktop" version of the guidelines. You can get to the adult and paediatric guidelines (desktop version) by clicking the links below (in the same way that you accessed the guidelines when they were hosted by MicroGuide. The layout and content remains very similar.
  • Guideline users will also be able to access the guidelines on their smart phones via the new app, click on the ‘EOLAS app’ link below for further information.

EOLAS app

MicroGuide will be moving to EOLAS from the morning of 17th December 2024. From this date onwards users will be required to download a new app to access the guidance on your mobile device. The navigation and layout of EOLAS remains very similar to MicroGuide, but with added benefits of direct access to Medusa, BNF, cBNF and NICE guidance. The app is available to all, but contains essential information for the following staff groups:

  • all prescribers of antimicrobials
  • staff who review and administer antimicrobials
  • pharmacists
  • nurses

You can download the EOLAS app from your app store. Click here for initial instructions.

Once you have installed the app, you will need to:

  • accept the terms and conditions of the app
  • create a new account and complete the relevant details as prompted, and allow push notifications. If you already have an account please continue to use that account.
  • add Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust guidance onto 'Your space'.
  • when prescribing antibiotics empirically for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust patients please ensure you use our guidelines and not those of another organisation.
  • the app version of the guidelines will be up to date and show the current version of the guidelines when connected to the internet, via wifi or mobile data on your mobile device. We strongly advise you use the app in this way.

You will need to select the 'Hospital Guidelines' tab before accessing adult antimicrobial or paediatric antimicrobial guides to access the relevant guidelines.

Adult antimicrobial guidelines

The adult antimicrobial guidelines will give you access to:

  • treatment guidelines (under body systems)
  • prophylaxis guidelines (under prophylaxis)
  • renal dosing (under drug, in the top left corner of your screen)

Paediatric antimicrobial guidelines

The paediatric antimicrobial guidelines will give you access to treatment guidelines, which are found under the body systems heading.
