Dr Georgia Smith

Areas of expertise

• Dr Smith is a substantive Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, with specialist interests in urogynaecology, advanced minimal access surgery and perineal care. Her professional interests also extend to medical education, being dedicated to the training and mentoring of all resident doctors and currently the RCOG College Tutor for the department.

Inpatient services

• Dr Smith is on the on-call consultant rota for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology, providing senior cover for maternity and emergency gynaecological services. She manages complex inpatient cases and performs a wide range of elective and emergency procedures. Her surgical expertise includes hysterectomy for benign disease (laparoscopic, open and vaginal), uterovaginal prolapse surgery, laparoscopic and open salpingo-oophorectomy and laparoscopic management of ectopic pregnancy. In Obstetric care, Dr Smith is experienced in performing advanced caesarean sections, instrumental births and external cephalic version. She also performs obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound to complement her consultations.

Outpatient Clinics

• Dr Smith provides care across a range of outpatient services including a urogynaecology clinic, a benign gynaecology clinic and a cancer exclusion clinic. She also provides support for the complex postnatal perineal clinic and offers consultant review for women with ongoing issues from perineal trauma after childbirth.
