Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics

Areas of expertise

Mr Dodds was appointed as a specialist knee and hip Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon in January 2015. He trained in London, working in several of the major teaching hospitals learning the latest techniques before completing his advanced training in Australia at a leading private hospital where he specialised in sports injuries and arthroplasty. He currently has a busy, high volume NHS and private practice and regularly performs soft tissue knee surgery including ACL and meniscal surgery, and joint replacement surgery including partial and full knee replacement surgery and hip replacement surgery.

Mr Dodds has a research doctorate (MD Res) from Imperial College, London, for his pioneering work on the anatomy and biomechanics of the knee focusing on the anterolateral structures of the knee. His research focused on improving biomechanics to aid the return to the sport of high-level sports professionals, and now the technique has now grown in popularity in the UK. Mr Dodds is happy to discuss extra-articular reconstruction with his patients.

Mr Dodds was elected to the prestigious post of Honorary Secretary of the British Association of the Knee in 2019, the organisation representing the 600+ knee surgeons in the UK. In this position he has a major role in organising the BASK spring congress and BOA knee revalidation sessions, providing leading best practice education for consultant knee surgeons and driving standards of care nationally. He is also involved in policy development with the BASK executive. He is currently also a member of several working groups, including the BASK ACL injury prevention and BASK arthroplasty working groups.

Mr Dodds was previously governance lead for the department of trauma and orthopaedics in Gloucestershire. He was also infection control lead where he led work that introduced measures to minimise the risk from infection for patients undergoing surgery. He is an Educational Supervisor for trainee surgeons and junior doctors.
