If it is difficult to open your bowels or your stool is hard, you may be constipated.

Advice if you are constipated:

  • Drink plenty of fluids to keep well hydrated
  • Eat plenty of fibre, fruit and vegetables.
  • Ask for advice about suitable medications from your local pharmacist or CNS team
  • Keep as active as you can

Call the Acute Haematology Oncology Unit (AHOU) if you are experiencing:

    • Have not had a bowel movement for 72 hours
    • Finding it difficult to open your bowels, such as straining or abdominal discomfort
    • Are experiencing nausea and/or vomiting
    • Feel bloated
    • Can not pass wind
    • You are concerned about your constipation
