Advice

Advice on technical matters is available at all times from the laboratory; and clinical advice and assistance in the interpretation of results is always available from a Consultant Haematologist, one of whom is on-call 24 hours a day.

Outside normal working hours the Haematology Biomedical Scientists and the on-call Consultant Haematologist can be contacted via the hospital switchboard and the air call bleep system.

For urgent clinical advice during normal working hours (between 9am and 5pm), the Haematology Registrar may be paged directly via the hospital switchboard. If a registrar is unavailable, the Consultant Haematologists are contactable via their secretaries.

For general clinical advice from a Consultant Haematologist for GPs and primary care physicians please phone the Haematology Clinical Advice line on 07766 424282 (available between 3pm and 5pm daily)

For all non urgent queries the Consultant Haematologists are happy to continue receiving letters for advice (ultimately via the Choose and Book Clinical Assessment System if this is universally adopted), as well as referrals for patients that you would like to be seen. If you wish to speak to a particular clinician (for example, regarding a patient receiving ongoing care from the department) you may choose to contact the secretaries at the relevant hospital.

Clinical Referrals

Patients may be referred by telephone or letter to the Consultant Haematologists.

Inpatients

Please contact the Haematology SHO, the Consultant Haematologists or their secretaries if a clinical referral, bone marrow aspirate or trephine is required.
