Bile samples are routinely tested for the presence of Salmonella
Sample requirements
A minimum volume of 2 mL is required to improve recovery of anaerobes, but a larger volume is desirable if possible

- Relevant clinical details
- ERCP
- Immunocompromise
- Current or recent antibiotic therapy
Storage/transport
Samples should be transported to the laboratory with minimal delay. Refrigerate samples if transport is delayed
The recovery of anaerobes may be compromised if transport delays exceed 3 hours
Turnaround time
Up to 5 days
