Serum - paired samples normally required
8.5ml of blood taken into a plain gel tube

- Date of onset
- Occupational history, e.g. veterinary surgeon, farm worker
- Endocarditis history

7–10 days
Positive results are referred to a Regional Reference Centre, so may take longer
