- Rotaviruses cause diarrhoea and vomiting most frequently in young children
- Peak incidence occurs in the cooler months
- Incidence has decreased since the introduction of the Rotovirus vaccine
- Stool samples are routinely tested on patients under the age of 7 years
- The test is by antigen detection
- The laboratory does not accept vomit samples
Sample requirements
Do not contaminate with urine
For liquid stools do not fill pot more than half full

Storage/transport
Transport as soon as possible. If transport is delayed, refrigeration is preferable to storage at room temperature.

Positive results within 24 hours Monday to Friday
