Notes

• This screen is appropriate for patients with pericarditis or myocarditis
• Patients with culture-negative endocarditis should be discussed with the consultant Microbiologist as additional tests may be required
• This screen comprises the following tests:
  • Influenza A virus antibodies
  • Influenza B virus antibodies
  • Chlamydophila psittaci antibodies
  • Coxiella burnetii (Q fever) antibodies
  • Mycoplasma pneumoniae antibodies
  • Enterovirus IgM antibodies

Sample requirements

Serum - paired samples normally required

8.5ml of blood taken into a plain gel tube

Required information

• Relevant clinical details
• Date of onset
• Pericarditis, myocarditis

Storage/transport

Store at fridge temperature

Transport as soon as possible at ambient temperature

Turnaround time

Enterovirus IgM sent to a National Reference Centre
