• Hepatitis E IgG/IgM serology is used to look for acute Hepatitis E infection
• Additional confirmatory tests are performed on IgG/IgM positive samples
• Hepatitis E virus investigations are only performed when specifically requested and when appropriate cclinical details are provided
• Sample processing may be delayed if adequate supporting information is not provided
• Suspected infectious hepatitis is a notifiable disease. Click for notification form.

Sample requirements

Serum - paired samples not normally required

8.5ml of blood taken into a plain gel tube

• Relevant clinical details
• Liver function tests
• Neurological presentations
• Date of sample collection

Store at fridge temperature

Transport as soon as possible at ambient temperature
