Sample requirements

This will be performed on selected CSF samples sent for microscopy and culture.

A minimum CSF volume of 200 µl per assay is required for reliable testing. Smaller volumes down to a minimum of 50 µl can be tested, but assay sensitivity may be reduced.

  • Date of onset
  • Length of history
  • Prior administration of antibiotics
  • Contact with other suspected cases
  • Vaccination history

Refrigerate immediately after collection
