Sample requirements

30ml universal container

30mL sterile Universal

  • A minimum volume of 1 mL is required, but a larger volume is desirable if possible
  • A standard charcoal transport swab may be used if there is insufficient fluid to otherwise collect

Required information

  • Relevant clinical details
  • Details of abdominal surgery
  • Current or recent antibiotic therapy

Storage/transport

Samples should be transported to the laboratory with minimal delay. Refrigerate samples if transport is delayed.

Microscopy results on day of receipt

Culture results up to 6 days
