- An inherited deficiency of enzymes involved in essential metabolic steps can precipitate a haemolytic anaemia.
- Test performed at Diagnostic Haematology Department, Hammersmith Hospital, London.

Sample Requirements
4ml EDTA sample.
A fresh EDTA sample is required. Please keep cool. A minimum of 2ml blood is required (0.5ml is acceptable as a minimum amount for children)

Sample Storage and Retention
- Pre analysis storage: do not store, send to laboratory within 4 hours.
- Sample retention by lab: This sample will be retained post-analysis at the Hammersmith Hospital, London.
As Pyruvate Kinase degrades quickly in stored blood, and due to the limited availability of transport to the Hammersmith Hospital, this test is not available as an add-on request.
