Notes
This test is used to detect current or recent Rubella infection
- Rubella IgG avidity can be used to indicate how recently infection has occurred. This is usually of use in pregnancy and should only be requested after discussion with a Consultant Microbiologist.
- To screen for Rubella immunity, please request Rubella IgG
- Consider Rubella infection in any pregnant woman presenting with a rash regardless of previous immune status

- Suspected cases can also be confirmed by a MMR oral fluid test; kits are available from the Health Protection Team on 0300 303 8162
Sample requirements
Serum - paired samples not normally required
8.5ml of blood taken into a plain gel tube

- Date of onset
- Details of pregnancy
- Details of exposure to other suspected cases
- Vaccination history
Storage/transport
Store at fridge temperature
Transport as soon as possible at ambient temperature
