Semen cryopreservation (sperm banking)

The Microbiology department provides a semen cryopreservation service which enables male patients from across the three counties to store samples of their semen prior to chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

• These treatments may reduce a patient's sperm quality and therefore sperm banking gives the opportunity to attempt to achieve pregnancy at a later date if so desired.
• This service is offered to all patients referred via Oncology before a treatment which may render them infertile.
• There is no funding to allow this service to be offered outside of Oncology.
