Notes
- The information given here is intended for use by healthcare professionals. Please see Lab Tests Online-UK for more general advice, links and background.
- This test is used to assess immunity to chicken pox
- If the patient has a clear history of previous chicken pox or shingles, immunity can be inferred without the need for testing
- A positive sample taken within 10 days of exposure to an infected contact indicates immunity to chicken pox. Positive samples taken beyond 10 days may indicate developing chicken pox infection or existing immunity
- If urgent testing is required, please contact the laboratory
- In pregnant patients it may be possible to test a previously submitted ante-natal sample - please contact the laboratory to check
- If immunoglobulin is required, this will be obtained by the laboratory
