Notes

• Used for patients where a diagnosis of Varicella zoster meningitis or encephalitis is considered
• The test is usually performed on a lymphocytic CSF
• This test is part of the Meningo-encephalitis viral PCR screen set

Sample requirements

This will be performed on CSF samples sent for microscopy and culture

A minimum CSF volume of 200 µl is required for reliable testing.

Storage/transport

Transport to the laboratory immediately. Refrigerate samples if transport is delayed.
