What conditions do we treat?
We provide care for patients with a broad range of rheumatic diseases, offering patients diagnosis, treatment, and, when appropriate, long-term management of their condition.
We see people, over 16 years of age, with a full range of rheumatic conditions including:
- Immune-mediated inflammatory arthropathy (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis)
- Connective tissue diseases (e.g. systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), systemic sclerosis (scleroderma), myositis, Sjőgren’s disease)
- Vasculitis (e.g. ANCA vasculitis, Behçet’s disease, giant cell arteritis)
- Metabolic bone disorders (e.g. Paget’s disease)
Conditions not routinely managed by rheumatology
- Osteoarthritis
- Gout (except in complex cases)
- Osteoporosis (except in complex cases)
- Hypermobility
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic fatigue
- Chronic back pain
- Local soft tissue problems e.g. Tennis Elbow
- Clinical emergencies e.g. suspected septic arthritis
- Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR)
