The Silver level course begins with two half days (face to face) and two online modules (viewed in your own time), with the aim of developing improvement teams and working through the initial stages of their improvement initiatives.

To be accepted onto a Silver programme, you need to identify a project sponsor who will be a senior member of staff within your area. You must be coming with a problem that requires a quality improvement approach.

Do you already have a solution to your problem? Quality Improvement is different to Service Improvement; bringing a solution to the workshops could limit your opportunities to consider other changes which may work better than the original hypothesised solution - your QI project is an opportunity to test various ideas before finding the right solution!

Participants are required to attend the two half days on the prescribed dates and then access the online modules (Patient Experience and Measurement), finishing with a Presenting your Progress session prior to Graduation. These modules will provide you with additional help and support, and build on your QI knowledge. The course, which normally takes place over 9-18 months, will culminate in the participants creating a poster and presenting the results of their improvement work at the Graduation and Awards Ceremony, where they will qualify as an Improvement Practitioner.

Additional time will also be required for you to work on your improvement outside of these sessions; this time commitment will vary depending on the scope of your improvement initiative. If you are applying for the Silver course as a project team working on the same improvement initiative, you need to be able to attend the workshops together.

Please note that the Bronze: Introduction to QI course is a mandatory prerequisite to the Silver course; if you have not yet attended the Bronze training please book on here.
